About Us

Society of Saint Carlo Acutis

The SBCA was founded with deep inspiration from the remarkable life and example of Carlo Acutis. What began as a seed during the 2020 pandemic took formal shape in March 2023, growing into a global movement dedicated to faith and evangelization.

Our mission is to proclaim and defend the Word of God, spreading the message through modern media and personal testimonies, just as Carlo did. While we place a strong emphasis on youth involvement, we welcome everyone seeking to deepen their Catholic faith. Through faith formation, we equip members with the knowledge and confidence to share and defend their beliefs, particularly on social media. Additionally, we develop leaflets and resources to address the spiritual questions and concerns of young people and society as a whole.

About Us

What is the Society of Saint Carlo Acutis?

The Society of Saint Carlo Acutis (SSCA) is a virtual, international Catholic community. Its members, known as Acutisians, are dedicated to living, defending, and spreading the Catholic faith in today’s digital world. It is a lifelong commitment. It is an initiative from the Divine UK ministries under the guidance of Fr. Joseph Edattu VC, Director, Divine Retreat Centre, Ramsgate, UK.

What Makes the SSCA Unique?

Unlike many other societies, the SSCA is fundamentally a digital community. While we connect and come together online, we also strive to build fellowship and communion in our local communities. We believe that social media, technology, and online platforms aren’t just tools; they are powerful pulpits for proclaiming the Gospel.

Inspired by Saint Carlo Acutis, the “patron saint of the internet,” our unique society is a global spiritual family united in prayer, evangelization, and digital mission. We are:

How did the Society begin?

During the COVID-19 pandemic, a time of profound loneliness and isolation, people worldwide turned to the digital realm for both their spiritual and secular needs. It was during this period that the Lord used Divine UK Ministries for a global evangelization effort through online ministries. Coincidentally, it was in 2020 that Carlo Acutis was beatified.

Inspired by the life and charism of Saint Carlo Acutis, Fr. Joseph Edattu VC, the Director of Divine UK in Ramsgate, initiated the Society of Saint Carlo Acutis. He envisioned the Society as a way to continue Acutis’ mission in today’s digital era, believing that “one Acutis inspires and raise up hundreds more Acutisians.”

What is the Purpose and Mission of the Society

The Society of Saint Carlo Acutis was founded because the Church has a profound need for digital apostles. The mission is threefold:

  1. To Defend the Faith: In a world where anti-Catholic prejudice, misinformation, and ridicule are widespread, the Society aims to be a strong voice for the truth.
  2. To Reach the Lost: The group seeks to connect with people of all ages who feel disconnected, lonely, or are searching for meaning in their online lives. To support Eucharistic devotion, prayer, and catechesis.
  3. To Build Community: The SSCA strives to create a welcoming digital space where faith, friendship, and purpose can flourish. To create a supportive virtual community where people, especially youth, find meaning and purpose.

In short, we exist to make Christ present where people spend much of their time today — the digital continent.

🌍 Where It Started?

The Society traces its spiritual foundation to the Divine Retreat Centre UK, St. Augustine’s Abbey, Ramsgate, Kent, United Kingdom by Fr. Joseph Edattu VC, Spiritual Father in 2022

From here, the vision expanded into an international digital community accessible to Catholics and seekers from every corner of the world.
